In today’s episode, Danielle Hughes and I have a fun conversation about words and the challenges and payoffs to knowing how to express ourselves when it comes to talking about ourselves. We talk about how vulnerable it can feel to actually talk really honestly about who we are, beyond our skills and what we do in the world.
Who are you beyond your job description? Who are you beyond your title?
We all have a personality and that is what makes us unique…it’s our own brand of “special sauce”. Take a listen and learn how to begin sharing what makes you, YOU and why it matters!

Listen to this week’s episode for some simple shifts that can change everything.

About Danielle
Danielle is the Chief Personality Officer of More Than Words Marketing.
Danielle Hughes helps individuals and institutions to develop their genuine personality brand. This allows you to own and embody your message, feel comfortable expressing it, and convey what makes you different from your competition so that you can attract the right audience and repel the wrong one. Danielle's client list is long and storied, so since she's showing off...

It includes companies like Google, PWC, eBay, Discovery Channel, Capital One, Gap, Columbia University, the Jed Foundation, among others, often referred to as a magician with words, which I'm actually going to absolutely endorse that because I'm going to tell you a little bit about what Danielle helped me with. While she can't pull a rabbit out of her hat, she can hone your brand message and deadlift you and your employees, but not at the same time.

That's just irresponsible. No, Danielle is available for office party tricks and accepts payment in bottles of Bordeaux. Welcome Danielle.

Resilience is an essential ingredient of thriving. Why? Because life is filled with challenges. We are all going to experience heartache, obstacles, and things that feel grossly unfair and can bring us to our knees. And resilience is what gives us the ability to get back up, to move forward, to see a situation as impermanent. It is a muscle that is built in adversity and discomfort and when we make the choice to grow through each of those experiences, we can come out with greater self-efficacy, greater self-awareness and a greater sense of agency.

In this powerful conversation, Merritt shares her story of loss, choice, rebuilding and resilience. We talk about family, theater, connection, community, grief, vulnerability, authenticity, the power of these words to change her life. Choose well, choose wisely, choose love.

When I first got my certification in Applied Positive Psychology, a lot of corporations asked me to create workshops on Work-Life Balance and for a couple years, I had a signature workshop called “Cultivating Work Life Balance” until I realized that balance was unattainable and not what we were actually looking for.
Basically, balance is bulls#$@. Why?  Because balance means equal and if you are working full time for 8 hours a day and you are sleeping 7-8 hours a day, and finding time to eat, shower etc. there will never be enough time to create balance..however, If we reframe the conversation and use different language, I have come to believe that our sense of well-being can go up, our stress can come down and we can be more engaged and happier in every part of our life.

In this week’s episode, Mich Bondesio, author of the book “The Cadence Effect” and I dive into reframing the conversation around work, life and well-being. She uses the term cadence and I use the word harmony to better describe what it is that would make our lives more satisfying, gratifying, productive and happier. There is always going to be stress and competing demands on our time. Mich shares tools and strategies and the most effective habits to keep us moving forward, with greater productivity and well-being and lower stress and burnout.

It feels fitting to begin 2024 with a prompt that moves us all forward. One Bold Move a Day is just that. Shanna defines a bold move as a meaningful action that helps you move forward, learn and grow. It is both simple and challenging because a bold move is one thing that challenges you to grow and that means it is something that is going to move you out of your comfort zone.
The best thing about one bold move is that the only person who defines it is you. Your bold move may be taking a walk outside or speaking up at a meeting or having a hard conversation with a friend or partner or applying for a business license etc. And what feels bold on MOnday and what feels bold next week may be really different.  No one else gets to define what feels like “bold” for you, so no judgment please!
It is about “doing the thing”. It is the follow through and initiative that differentiates us, not always the outcome. We dive into the four mindsets, achieving goals, celebrating wins and building community. I invite you to think about your goals for 2024 and imagine where you will be after 365 bold moves…
As we begin this new year, I am committing to one bold move a day, writing it down and sharing it with a friend. Will you join me?

We are wired for connection. We are meant to be in relationship and communion with other people. Since the beginning of time, we have needed a community to survive. And yet, that doesn’t mean that we have been given the playbook for co-creating relationships that thrive and flourish. In this episode with the brilliant and talented Dawn Kutza, PhD and author of "Creating Authentic Relationships: A Love Playbook for the Next Generation", we explore what it means to come into a relationship “healthy” and what kind of personal growth work we do as individuals and as couples to get comfortable with vulnerability, build self-awareness, increase trust, cheer each other on and encourage one another to grow as individuals and as partners.
Enjoy!
